Sports stories are a dime-a-dozen nowadays but this gem stands apart from the crowd. Not only does it pull on the emotional heartstrings but it relishes in it's ability to prove how strong Jack & Cassie are together and how much better off they are as team than apart.
This story has heart, a great plot, a swoon-worthy hot guy and a strong & sassy heroine, what more could you want? It's a definite must-read and I can't wait to see where this story takes me next!
For those who read the first book you know that both Jack & Cassie had to face some pretty crazy and difficult situations, i.e. the mugging, the cheating, the baby, marriage, etc. (Omg, I'm exhausted and it wasn't even me!) but in the end they made it all worth it in an epic apology courtesy of Jack effing Carter. This apology should go in that mythical handbook guys are always bitching about needing when it comes to understanding women. Sweeping over the top gestures are always crowd-pleasures.
At the start of this book, the author picked right up from where the first book left off and was even nice enough to re-explain everything to catch us up from the first book, all told through Jack's P.O.V. I wish I had bothered to open this book before re-reading the first so I spent the first 25% or so of the second doing the skim-and-flip motion before landing on where the action really begins. Though, I will admit it was nice to read some stuff that wasn't included in the first like some of the behind-the-scenes stuff Cassie wasn't privy to.
I really liked how the author took the story behind the scenes of what it means to be Jack Carter's girlfriend, a side most of us will never experience: the rumors, the backlash, i.e. the unnecessary drama. As a sports fan, I can definitely empathize with Cassie in that situation and how horrible it must have been for her to deal with. It made me think about all the athletes and girlfriends we read about and all of the off-the-field/court rumors we hear, and made me think twice about taking these stories at face value.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I am really recommend this great story to anyone who enjoys not only contemporary romances but sports themed romances as well.
