Christina Nickelson keeps to herself and uses her part-time job for Silver Valley's Department of Children's Services to help those who are also alone and hurting. The anger and fear she thought she'd overcome after her parents were murdered resurfaces when an ex-convict and leader of a motorcycle club claims a teenage boy in her care. She can't let her worries go. Putting herself at risk, she finds herself held hostage, witnessing a murder, and questioning fate. The only person she can rely on is the biker who will kill her if she tries to leave.
When his father is released and steps in to raise his son, Christina is determined to make sure he is okay. Only, Cam, his father wants her to leave them alone, threatening her if she returns.
Unable to stay away, Christina finds herself in trouble when Cam and his motorcycle club catches her watching them from the road.
Cam cares deeply for Christina, to the point of almost obsession and will do anything for her, she just doesn't know it yet. Just like she doesn't know the only man she's ever let in (prisoner #18794) is really Cam. He wants her to come to realization on her own and hopes that by showing her his love, she'll realize who he really is. After all, she's his world, his woman, even if Christina hasn't accepted this yet.
He believes she needs help seeing the light, so Cam essentially kidnaps her, keeping her locked up in his house, forcing her to resign from her job and moves her out of her apartment without her knowledge. She has no friends who will come looking for her and that's just what Cam is banking on. Now, she is completely dependent on Cam and he's got her right where he wants her.
I liked this book but not because of the highly unusual relationship between Christina and Cam but because it was different. There's so much going on in the book, but never once did I get confused or lost. Instead, I felt sympathy, not only for Christina who fights back but eventually succumbs to Cam's will, but also Cam. Cam, who is so incredibly messed up but is not a bad guy at his core despite what he thinks.
I am excited to read book two to see where Ms. Kayn takes this story. If you enjoy MC books with an alpha male, you'll enjoy this book.
